Job Description

West Virginia's WorkForce West Virginia Bureau of Labor Market Information seeks a Data Analyst I to illuminate the state’s evolving economy. This onsite role in Charleston centers on collecting, analyzing, and reporting economic and workforce data, generating employment projections and wage estimates, maintaining website data, and supporting surveys, with occasional travel as needed. The position offers a yearly salary ranging from USD 32,862 to 56,373.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and analyze economic, occupational, and workforce data from diverse sources such as research studies, state records, and federal surveys.
  • Become proficient with a specialized data system to monitor and estimate West Virginia’s economic and employment trends.
  • Produce long-term and short-term employment projections, along with employment and wage estimates for state and local workforce areas.
  • Analyze labor market and economic data to craft clear data summaries and author routine publications and special reports, including the West Virginia Annual Economic Review.
  • Assemble, update, and maintain workforce data for the Division’s website and respond promptly to time-sensitive data requests from the public and private sectors.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to design data collection methods and execute targeted surveys for unique research projects and reports.
  • Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel may be required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Research-minded and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to quickly master a specialized data system.
  • Capability to generate both long-term and short-term employment projections and wage estimates.
  • Skill to analyze labor market and economic data to write clear data summaries and author publications and reports.
  • Aptitude to compile, update, and maintain workforce data for the Division’s website.
  • Capacity to field time-sensitive data requests from the public and private sectors.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal team members to devise data collection methods and execute targeted surveys.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (in-state and out-of-state).
